It was a year, the year when nothing was as it should be.
Warm rain instead of frosty snow. The tree dropping its needles in less than a week.
Kids not interested in garland or twinkling lights on the porch.
The piano silent, no off-tune carols sung around it.
Cookies burned or shunned as too many carbs.
Every expectation like a reflection, blurred and reversed.
Until it occurred to me, the one thing that hadn’t changed or been altered,
The reason for the memories of the past and the joys yet to come.
This is a celebration however it’s wrapped.
It’s holiday time with so many celebrating something. This post is a tribute to how often these events can disappoint unless we remember the reason we are doing it all in the first place.
