He learned not to explain what he saw around him.

Simultaneous timelines, parallel universes, label it however.

As a boy he told his parents about the two worlds.

They sent him to a therapist,

Who gave him medicine,

That made him quiet.

Quiet and alone.

Over time, he adjusted to his chaotic existence.

Living in one lonely world overlayed by another,

Then he noticed her.

How easily she smiled.

How untroubled her expression.

He knew she was the one,

The one who would get him,

Not be afraid.

He knew because she wasn’t in one world, she was in both.

A zany inspiration from Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt. I have to admit sometimes I feel like there is a parallel universe where everything wacky and unexplainable is clear and with purpose. But then I make the mistake of being near the television when the news is on and I’m back to the reality that order and common sense have run for the hills and they’re not coming back any time soon. That is why creative minds need to gather in events such as Rochelle’s photo prompt challenge. Let’s lose ourselves for a few moments in the made up space of an inspiring photo by Dale Rogerson.

I can see why she is drawn to the person who walks in both worlds. We have to keep our minds open, not shut down with numbing substances.

Numbing certainly is easier, but finding someone to face a difficult life together does make it more likely they will be happy.

The possibilities are limitless for two people who understand each other’s world(s).

    Dear Clare,

All too often the creative person is misunderstood. I hope he’s right about her. BTW loved your message after the story. ❤

    Shalom,

It’s funny that it comes across that my character has some kind of mental oddity when I really meant that he exists in two realities…by some freak of physics!

A lovely piece. My heart sank when I read the bit about the medicine and therapist, then rose up when he met someone who understands.

A therapist and meds can do some good, so it was worth a try!

What a perfectly lovely story. And the parallel worlds (in our minds)? I think it is something all creative people know about and explore.

Thanks! It seemed a plausible situation…but the definition of ‘plausible’ needs to be broad!

Making sense of a chaotic world can be difficult for us all at times. Any glimmer of happiness should be applauded.

I believe there is more to the world than we know or can comprehend. Imagination or something else, it’s fun to imagine.

This went from despair to hope. I think too often people’s imaginations are stunted with drugs rather than trying to understand them. Poignant piece, Clare.
