-There’s one on every block.

-The unique one?

-No, the weird one.

The one that stands out, showcasing all their differentness,

as though it’s good.

-The brave look.

-Brave? No! Obnoxious. Ruining the aesthetics of the neighborhood.

-Beautiful, visually challenging.

-You’re deluded.

-No, attracted.

– You and they should go some place else where that kind of look is down the whole street.

– Who would notice the design then?

 -Exactly.

-You don’t want your eyes to be alive. You only want to see what you expect to see.

-Now you get it.

-Blind is good?

-It is for me.

Today’s 100 word story is inspired by the featured photo credited to David Stewart as part of Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers photo challenge.

I could write ten stories from this photo but I present to you only one. Do you want ten? Ask me in comments.

You know it’s true, there’s always one house that stands as a testament in contrast to all the rest.

Have a great day being who you are. Best, Clare

It’s as they say of the eye of the beholder. Isn’t variety a wonderful thing?

Your title takes me back. My mom used to sing “Our House” around the house often when I was a kid. I have a recording of my dad singing it.

That’s a nice little story in your comment; to have a mom and dad sing that song and you remember. Thanks for sharing!

You’re right – and sometimes it’s a beautiful break in the monotony, other times an eyesore, so I agree with both your characters!

I’d like to be the one with a house like that, the brave one that messes up the aesthetics of the whole street. 🙂 Great story, sounds like a typical disagreement between partners.

    Dear Clare,

Your title gave me an earworm. 😉 I think we live next door to that house. Not the one in the picture…that house…you know what I mean. Hard to turn a blind eye. Well done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

Hopefully your neighbor’s house is as cute as the one in the photo even if it doesn’t go with all those around it. I’m guessing by your comment though, that it is more unique than cute.

and liked the spectrum ends – so many of them like this: deluded vs attracted

The point is humanity is beautifully diverse, and even so not meant to be divisively diverse.
