Everyone stopped in their tracks when they saw the chair occupied by the violin. I smiled, keeping quiet.

Joey was putting together the last of his famous dip, jalepinos, bacon, grilled onions and cream cheese. The newest rage with his friends.

It was Jake who asked first. Not a surprise.

“What’s with the lonely ukulele?”

“Oh come on Jake, it’s a violin.” Marge, his wife, knocked him on the shoulder.

He laughed, like it was the best joke ever. Such a funny guy, my brother.

“Brad won’t be playing tonight,” I informed them. “He did some weeding today. Poison ivy.”

I’ve never actually had the dip described in this post but I saw it made on a YouTube channel. Might be good! This glimpse into a family dinner brought to you by Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers. The photo prompt from © Amanda Forestwood, prompted the question, why is the prized instrument on the chair sans the musician? Hope you all have a great day. Mind the bright green leaves creeping up your trees and wear some gloves to pull that innocent looking vine! Happy spring! Best, Clare.

Lol. Love that last line. I guess she doesn’t like his music?

Not all family gatherings are so convivial 🙂 This was a great read, had me smiling in spite of the poor guy with poison ivy.

Owch! Poison Ivy is nasty, but at least the violin made it to the party. Cute story, well done.

A believable story, Clare. Nothing like a bit of picking poison ivy to silence the music. Nicely done.

I thought the ending was going to be more sinister so I’m glad it was just poison ivy. Jalapeño dip? Si Señora eso es muy bien.

Poor Brad – I’m sure as the evening goes on, someone else can pick it up and give it a go! 😉

Maybe! Or they could just keep eating chips and dip and sing a song!

A lovely moment captured at a garden BBQ. It really is a pity that no one will be playing the violin.

He tried to warm up before guests arrived but those itchy hands couldn’t keep the bow smooth.

It ended better than expected – I assumed the musician was dead… I’ve read too many dark Friday Fictioneer stories;)
