Hands Down the Best Dip

Everyone stopped in their tracks when they saw the chair occupied by the violin. I smiled, keeping quiet.

Joey was putting together the last of his famous dip, jalepinos, bacon, grilled onions and cream cheese. The newest rage with his friends.

It was Jake who asked first. Not a surprise.

“What’s with the lonely ukulele?”

“Oh come on Jake, it’s a violin.” Marge, his wife, knocked him on the shoulder.

He laughed, like it was the best joke ever. Such a funny guy, my brother.

“Brad won’t be playing tonight,” I informed them. “He did some weeding today. Poison ivy.”

I’ve never actually had the dip described in this post but I saw it made on a YouTube channel. Might be good! This glimpse into a family dinner brought to you by Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers. The photo prompt from © Amanda Forestwood, prompted the question, why is the prized instrument on the chair sans the musician? Hope you all have a great day. Mind the bright green leaves creeping up your trees and wear some gloves to pull that innocent looking vine! Happy spring! Best, Clare.

  6. A believable story, Clare. Nothing like a bit of picking poison ivy to silence the music. Nicely done.

  7. I thought the ending was going to be more sinister so I’m glad it was just poison ivy. Jalapeño dip? Si Señora eso es muy bien.

  11. A lovely moment captured at a garden BBQ. It really is a pity that no one will be playing the violin.
