The song came through the hotel walls.
“Do you know the way to San Jose.”
Katie couldn’t stop the flashback.
Hitch hiking to the beach.
The old man’s radio playing that same sixties song.
The boys they met.
How they hid under the boardwalk after dark
and went skinny dipping in the surf.
Fun.
Until one of the boys stole their clothes.
They found them soon,
but they couldn’t find Marisa.
For two hours.
They all searched.
Their fun gone with the outgoing tide.
Turned out, Marisa was fine.
She slept wrapped in a towel.
They took a taxi home.
