Sometimes a person can see something every day,

And not notice what is staring  back at them.

One morning,

June looked out the kitchen window and saw a skull.

It’s sunken eyes watched her.

The mouth gaped in a permanent cry for help.

How long had it been there?

She shivered in fear.

“Whatcha lookin at?” her husband Sam asked.

“Nothing.”

But Sam went outside, reached under the tree, right to the object of her fear.

“It’s a rock.” He held it up. But then he looked down and saw the hand.

That’s how Sam discovered she was a killer.

It’s Friday Fictioneer time at Rochelle-Wisoff’s blog. The photo this week is provided by Dale Rogerson and I for one want to know what that rock rocking chair is all about! Here’s my contribution to the 100 word photo challenge. It’s a bit on the creepy side but oddly enough it’s partially based on a true story.

I actually looked out into my yard once and saw a rock under a tree that looked eerily like a skull. All kinds of stories went through my head including that it was actually a petrified human skull. I meant to take it with me when I moved, but mysteriously I never found it again.

I have been known to collect rocks. I think there is some kind of psychological significance to that habit. I have rocks tucked away in boxes, on shelves, in drawers, just because. I’m not too curious as to what it would mean. I discovered while cleaning out my mother’s house, that she too collected rocks. Needless to say my collection has doubled. lol.

Hey if keeping a piece of the earth’s crust makes you happy, I say go for it! Happy rock hunting! Best, Clare

    Woooooo creepy
That’s certainly not how you want to find out. I do see all sorts of things too. But I’d be terrified if I found something like that

What he does with that discovery would be in the next 100 words.

I don’t usually write murder themed stories. I would probably scare myself too much!

I understand, sometimes I write a story and wonder, “Where in the world did that come from? Murder, mayhem, not my style.” I also wonder, why I didn’t catch that typo in my comment to you, *now, not know.

We throw typos in here and there unconsciously so we don’t get too proud! Lol

what a surprise ending – yikes

and how fun that you and your mom collect rocks – and I can see the attraction – even though it might really cost you when you move (rocks can be heavy)

So far I’ve not added any boulders to my collection! Thanks for reading and commenting!

The ending was a sucker punch.

It is true how our imagination can see shapes and forms in all sorts of objects, clouds for example. Usually, I see more gruesome objects during the darkness at night, I could honestly believe that tree moved! Just me.
