PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

It happened.

The world fragmented into pixels.

Tiny pictures, mini-worlds,

that altogether did not make the same as a whole life.

Explosions of change that were indelible,

Obliterating familiar,

Decimating normal,

Forever altering the view of what it’s supposed to be.

How does one recover from such an alteration?

Where is home for the soul when the soul is lost?

Who will help the hapless wanderers to feel safe again?

There’s no going back to tomorrow and today has been chased by fear.

Look once more,

there’s still some of yesterday, reflected in the rain.

We will find our way.

Something about this week’s photo © and provided by Roger Bultot for Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneer’s photo challenge struck me in a melancholic way. I’m not sure why. It doesn’t match my mood, but still my first reaction was one of destruction instead beauty.

Hopefully, the chord my 100 words strikes is one of inspiration despite hardship and disorienting change.

We’ve all been picked to be on this planet at this day and hour, so do your best and pray for the rest!

Happy St. Pat’s to my Irish friends of which there are some who are my relatives! Clare

Oh that last line, ‘still some of yesterday reflected in the rain’. Love it.

Thank you Laurie. That line seemed to hit home for others too. It’s too easy to be overtaken by uncertainty and miss the thread of unchangeable good running right alongside us in this race called life.

A brilliant reflection on change. I think many generations went through something like this, unimagined developments that turn the world upside down. Only, in our era everything seems to happen so incredibly fast, and looking back can give us vertigo. Again, brilliant writing.

Many thanks! There is ‘nothing new under the sun’ which sometimes gives me strength to just put on a stone face and look forward.

    Dear Clare,

There are times that feel like that. Glad it ended on a hopeful note. Well written.

It’s easy to feel that the trouble all around is the reality of life and peace and rightness are an illusion, but that’s when to look hard and see the unbreakable thread of an ever present, ever strong, ever right Creator weaving in the midst and trust that hope is not in vain.

So glad she found some hope to cling to. It was looking pretty dismal there.

I agree with Violet. That line is stellar. And I agree with Neil about the mini-worlds in the rain, because that is SO true when you look at water drops. Nicely done.

Lost and uncertain between the ideas of a confused world. Nicely done, a deftly piece of thought provocative poetry.

Science fiction writer created the concept of “slow glass” some decades ago famously presented in his short story “The Light of Other Days.” Slow glass accepts like just like any other glass, but depending on its density, that light might not pass through to the other side for days, weeks, or decades. Imagine your lost loved one was in front of such a pane but the images of what they did became visible to you only twenty years after they died?
