On Planet Mesmer

Bran’s skin was splitting,

At the back of his neck,

Down his arms,

From morphing into Mesmer.

He stepped into the oil bath and started to slip.

Zate caught his elbow.

“I’m fine,” Bran said shaking Zate off.

“Your feet have no grip. You’ll slip and go under.”

“I know how to swim.”

“In oil?” Zate smiled.

Bran laughed. “No.”

“You’ll sink. You know that right?”

“I learned that in Physics once upon a time.”

Apparently, those laws held true on Earth and Mesmer.

Bran slipped.

Zate reached.

Both went under.

Four feet deep.

Oil on the face never hurt.

What a wild photo prompt we were offered at Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers. This superb photo prompt credits go to Robbie Cheadle. Hop over to more stories by clicking on the link.

I took the prompt and thought of a scene in my novel, “From Earth to Mesmer” ( description below). I think the laws of physics are universal however since our understanding of the universe is forever growing, delaminating actually, anything’s possible. Sci-Fi is a true frontier of the imagination!

Have a great day people! And accept help if you’re on another planet in a pool of oil. Ha! Ha! Clare

FROM EARTH TO MESMER

Ret hopes to find something from the humans to use in a cure for a Mesmer virus. What he finds instead is love even if she is an odd shape and a gender that doesn’t exist on Mesmer. He entangles his best friend with the other hybrid human just in time for civil war to break out between the old traditional party and the young progressive political party. But war is no time to choose a partner, the most important step in Mesmer society. Is there any hope to keep their lives, their bonds and their planet or will they all be lost in the fray?

The great thing about Sci-Fi and Fantasy is that we can make up the rules. Your imagination is your only limitation.

Navigating one’s home planet is challenging enough. I enjoyed your imaginative story, Clare.

No, but I think the lack of buoyancy might still be treacherous!
