Give Me Air, Give Me Light
100 Words / Sci-Fi Fantasy
All the subterranean buildings had clear dome tops,
An improvement that Zate fought for,
But they said he wasn’t a leader; he was a dreamer that inspired others
To be foolish.
So, he built a city above ground,
With windows and fresh air and a celebration of life.
When war broke out,
They took over the planetary defense munitions.
They bombed Zate’s city,
To prove a point.
So, they thought.
The buildings were three quarters buried.
The infrastructure fortified.
Who has the last laugh now?
The true leader inspires.
One hand does the work and the other holds the sword. *

The building’s architecture in the photo made me think of builders. * The last line is an adaptation of Nehemiah 4:16 a truly valiant and descriptive story of people defending and believing against the odds that their right to their identity was worth fighting for and of course that God was on their side.
I tied the photo into one of my new projects looking for a publisher – “Humans in a Cage”. Zate is an up-and-coming young (alien) leader ushering in a new age of open, compassionate and enlightened governing while those who have been in place are driving more control, more protective measures for their power. It’s the backdrop for the humans who were abducted and become entwined in the planet’s politics through Zate and Ret, a scientist who thought the humans were interesting. Maybe a little too interesting as Zate and Ret choose partners among them.
Forgive my plugging my newest WIPs! They are great stories, and I appreciate comments on what you think about them. I’m open to beta-readers. Just let me know in comments. Meanwhile, if you go to my Home page you can see the Vella stories that are available now and the three WIPs I’m currently working on seeking agent representation. Did I tell you that “We Are Survivors” is now completed and Book 2 is pushing its way out of my mind? 🙂
Have a great day! Clare
