The dark hides good, bad, weird.

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

Things look different in the deficit of light.

Or maybe they are different.

That last window doesn’t open to the outside.

It leads to a passageway,

Then a ledge, a balcony of sorts, laced with spider webs.

There’s a metal box, inside a gun, bullets, a cloth stained,

Maybe the blotch is red.

Also, within, stacked letters, the elastic around them disintegrated,

my dead husband’s name scrawled across.

In the dark I see it all.

In the morning light there’s only the bottle of meds.

But why the cobwebs in my hair?

It’s that day, when a photo posted for Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers demands a 100 word story to be told. An obscure photo deserves an obscure story. Enjoy today’s! Eat your carrots. I hear they improve sight in the dark. You never know what you might see! Best, Clare

Yes, especially if one is taking Ambien. My husband tried it once and it was a riot the story he told while under the influence.

I wonder what her husband was up to that she has such visions/dreams. Perhaps she knows more than she thinks.

Loved how this tale unfolded. Insane or sane? We may never know.

Madness of natural causes? Or driven to… Good details that bring the story to life. The dual use of cobwebs works well.
