Reality could be staring you right in the face.

Breathing down your neck,

With garlic breath, acid and stinking.

You want to shake the hand on your shoulder off,

Go, about your day,

Eating and drinking,

Say your hello’s, how’re doing?

But your legs want to bolt,

Run, jump, tear your way through,

the frame of truth studded with nails,

Sharpened, ready to slash your happy bubble.

Do I say, “Don’t ignore that which stalks you,”?

No, I say, “acknowledge its presence, then sit, breath, rest, pray.”

Reality will always be there when you are ready to slap its face.

Hello reader! This photo prompt is brought to you by Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneer challenge with the PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot.

I say sometimes it’s okay to not face what’s right there in front of you. Sometimes taking a breather, giving your psyche a chance to catch up, is not the worst thing you could do when trouble comes around.

Here’s hoping what’s stalking you is good news and blessings!

Best, Clare

Urgh, the contradictory advice of our ancestors really can keep up guessing, can’t I? I don’t think we can avoid reality forever, but it’s OK to take a break sometimes.

Every time I watch a show or read (or write) a book, I’m taking a break from reality…complex minds need a pause once in awhile…unless of course, it’s just my brain’s issue! Lol

I felt this one deep in my core. Nice one, sometimes I like to shrug off reality because really whose reality is it?

I’m glad it spoke to you. Real is real, but we can keep our distance when we have to. There would be no entertainment industry if we all could handle the cold, hard, truth every moment of every day.

I agree. We can’t ignore it for too long without making things a whole lot worse, but sometimes, it’s nice to have an escape.

Moment of reflection. Sit and take a moment. You can’t run from your problems, they’ll be there when you return but a time out is necessary breathing space.

    Dear Clare,

An intriguing take on the prompt. Thank you for your afterthoughts. We are our own worst enemies I think.

Nice spin on an old saying, “Feel the fear and then do it anyway.” Congrats on the new book! Must feel good 🙂
