The uncertainty shook Deanna to the core.

She trembled thinking about what could happen.

The inspectors said the roof could collapse.

The foundation was not much better.

“A death trap” they called it.

With all their funds depleted to buy the house cash,

they ate noodles and jarred sauce,

barely scraping together enough to keep the lights on.

Now this?

Should she believe those saying,

they already had twenty percent equity?

Would the bank agree?

Adventure always beckons without caution,

And peace must be intentional in its midst.

To herself she said,

“Sit back, relax, one step at a time.”

This tale is inspired by Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers photo challenge. The peaceful scene in the photo is compliments of Sandra Crook.

My 100 words is hopefully ninety percent fiction as I am on the verge of having a home inspected for “as-is” purchase. It’s a home built in the 1950’s with a shallow crawl space. It will be hard to observe the conditions. Having a home inspection does not guarantee a stamp of ‘no issues’. The disclaimer on the inspection contract is a long list of what isn’t inspected and no specific list about what is!

I will have to heed my story advice and keep my peace either way with the confidence the Peacemaker gives in all circumstances. Here goes nothing…

Wishing you a happy life of both adventure and peace!

Best, Clare

The joy of house restoration is an uncertain adventure and can shake the confidence of anyone on a budget.

‘yes, one step at a time’ is the only way forward and she is so relaxed. Wait until the bills roll in!

    Dear Clare,

Sounds like money pit to me. Ah the joys of being a home owner. Nicely done.

    Shalom,

There’s nothing like owning your own house. And there’s nothing like owning your own house that has something fundamentally wrong with it. I know this. The worry oozes from 100 words.

There’s nothing quite like owning your own house. And there’s nothing quite like owning your own house that has something fundamentally wrong with it. I know this. The worry oozes from 100 words.

I like the stream of consciousness format and how you articulated her ambivalence.
