Excerpt From Sci-Fi Fantasy novel: “From Earth to Mesmer”

PHOTO PROMPT © Sandra Crook

Bran took the last gulp of water from his flask. A drop fell. It lit up the floor transforming the cave with iridescent light as it rippled outward. Silvery, twenty-foot beams gleaming fiercely, appeared like bright knives along the sides. Then more beams appeared as though marching, closing in on Bran and Zate backing them against the wall.

“I think we found the Nester.”

The one directly before Bran transformed into a glowing face and then its body appeared.

“Human?”

“I’m Mesmer, hybrid.”

“Too much human.”

We’re in trouble.

In a flash they were tossed into a pearly, glowing jail.

Today’s Friday Fictioneer’s photo prompt by Sandra Crook is phenomenally weird! Persepctive is everything! It reminded immediately of one of the aliens in my book series “Earth to Mesmer”. They are 20’ tall, metallic beams until they transform into their iridescent body form. They are infesting Earth, unbeknownst to humans and they don’t like humans. That could be a problem for Earth. It is definitely a problem for Bran, a hybrid Mesmer with a human face.

Hope sci-fi fans enjoy this edited clip. Be sure to jump over to Rochelle Wisoff’s blog for the link to the rest of the stories the fantastic photo conjure up.

Very “out of the box”, or should I say world? (haha)

Very cool idea. I can’t fault them for not liking humans. Humans aren’t kind to the unknown.

Thanks! Your story was somber and sweet, particularly because my mom was just put on hospice this week. You described the ideal way to go. We’ll take mom as close to that as possible.

That was peculiar, I was totally lost but it was really well written and made me smile, so a job well done I’d say.

Thank you! It threw a few readers off. I guess a random excerpt doesn’t always work!

The idea of a drop of water turning into an iridescent rippling light it pure magic, if not a little eerie. Well done creepiness.

You’re fine! Thanks for the feedback on new blog look. It’s kind of a pain to try and find the right look. I blindly press buttons and hope it doesn’t end up looking stupid…then I get mad for having spent good writing time when I’m still not happy with the results.

Great suspense. This rises so many interesting questions: Nester? Hybrid? – and the image you painted about the drop of water waking up the creature or nest was stunning.

The note about the excerpt really helped, it transported me into ‘SF mode’.

I am so glad you filled me in with some backstory here because I was a bit lost. I think they would be in competition with the humans that don’t like humans if they came to earth right now.

I added a sub-title so readers know it’s an excerpt of Sci-Fi before they read. Thanks for your helpful comment.
