Some deals look good.

The terms make sense.

But then something gets twisted, the purpose backfires.

Take for instance the deal with Gerry’s Painting service.

He agreed to paint the church pristine white, no charge for labor in exchange to park his boat until it sold. His ‘boat’ was an ugly old thing. Three weeks and it was still blocking the church.

That was a deal that didn’t go as planned.

Same as the one made with his daughter.  “Live right by our values or you’re not under my roof”. Her empty room is freshly painted. A bonus from Gerry.

I feel bad for Gerry. “The best laid plans of mice and men…”

I wonder if Gerry ever struggles with regrets.

Seems like he’s at least facing he might need to think things through a little more!

Gerry has strong values but it seems the outcome isn’t what he planned. Good story!

It seems both situations or deals did not turn out so well for Gerry. Well written tale!

Right. That is indeed the dark side of many such deals. However, I’m thinking the price is too high (in both cases). 🙂

Gerry knows the art of making a deal. Nicely done.

Live and let live comes to mind, but there are principles which sometimes have to wait. I liked how you have drawn your story from real life circumstances.

One thing I didn’t convey clearly is, although the deal was kept with Gerry and his daughter, he’s not happy with either outcome.
