It skittered across the concrete,
Masquerading as a bit of dry grass,
A humble seed floating,
Right under the feet of the cat,
The very same creature that hunted down,
Spiders as small as pencil points,
And ate them.
This little speck of movement,
Losing its randomness between the cat’s paws,
Caught my eye.
I corralled it into my hand,
And brought the tiny mantis,
To the safety of the garden.
The prey, released to prey,
I pray for my rescue’s good health and happy hunting.
