Reflections of Your Childhood – 100 Words

We used to switch cars. Your dad half way to work for second shift and me half way home.

The trade off happened at the park where you and your sister roamed like prairie dogs popping out of the tunnel slide, crossing the swaying bridge or climbing up the wall that was soooo high, both of you little explorers.

It’s been a long time since those days. You may not even remember. Life has shown you it is not all fun and games. But you are still brave my son and I pray that you still know how to play.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s reflection in honor of my son’s birthday. Parents of young children, be warned, they do grow up and don’t look to you any more for help (unless they’re really in trouble!). Find a way to enjoy the business and constant sacrifice for their benefit. They’re golden days! This week’s 100 words brought to you by the photo prompt from Roger Bultot at Rochelle Wisoff’s Friday Fictioneers. Join the party or just read! There’s a whole lot of talented writers sharing amazing short stories.

This story is beautifully told and so true. They are kids.. then boom.. they are adults. They seem to grow before our eyes. I was so busy playing with my kids either at the beach, at the playground or being parent-help at Kindergarten, the housework was an afterthought lol. Your story is a lovely tribute to your son.

I can’t believe I’m not still playing on the playground. What happened to those days?

    Dear Clare,

So true. In the blink of an eye they go from childhood to manhood. Lovely birthday tribute to your son. It made me smile and tear up at the same time.

    Shalom,

Nice stepping through nostalgia. I just told my son and his wife that today and to appreciate the baby while they can.

Goodness! I love the descriptions of the children playing. It took me back to the playground at the park near the house I grew up in. The kids in the neighborhood played there every day.

Love the “prairie dog” image. Perfect for the way a child pops around at a playground.

One of the many rewards of having adult children is that they DON’T need you every minute of every day! I loved my kids at all ages, but right now is the very best.

So true, my children grew up so fast, I wonder if I missed precious moments with them.
